Dog walking can be a lot of fun. It is a great way to bond and it is hugely beneficial for the health and well-being of both pet and owner.
But before you hit the road with your furry friend there are several things to bear in mind.
- When dogs walk at night be extra vigilant and always use a leash. As well behaved as your pet may be, low light and unfamiliar surroundings may startle your dog. - Keep your pooch warm. Some dogs feel the cooler temperatures more than others. If this is the case for your dog you should consider buying a well-fitted, fleece-lined doggy jacket.
- Stick to well-lit areas. Anytime you are walking at night or in the dark it is important to stick to well-lit areas. This allows you to see where you are going, avoid obstacles and be visible to oncoming traffic.
- Always carry a flashlight with you to illuminate anywhere with very low light.
- If possible, avoid traffic. If avoiding traffic is not an option then we recommend walking towards the traffic. As traffic approaches raise your flashlight to ensure that you are seen, taking care not to blind the oncoming driver!
