Traveling With Your Pet Post-Brexit

The rules for traveling to and from the UK with your pet have changed following Brexit.

Guidance from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine on Pet Travel after Brexit

Pet owners traveling between Ireland and Great Britain should be aware that the rules for pet travel will change after 1st January 2021.

Pet owners are advised to contact their vet in good time in advance of their travel date to ensure that their pet has the correct documentation.

Pets (cats, dogs, and ferrets) traveling to and from Great Britain must abide by the following rules:
They must be microchipped.
They'll need to be vaccinated against rabies (this must take place after they're microchipped).
Must travel with either a health certificate provided by a UK official vet or an EU pet passport.
EU pet passports provided by Northern Ireland will remain valid. An EU pet passport issued in GB won't be valid for travel to the EU.
Pet owners should retain any GB-issued EU pet passport, as it may contain important information about vaccinations, treatments, etc.
This passport and animal health certificate should be brought during travel from GB to Ireland.
Dogs traveling from the UK will require treatment for tapeworm 1-5 days before arriving in Ireland (this can be entered into your pet passport by a UK vet).
