How to Prepare Wild Life Surprise Suet Cakes?

Ingredients for a Wild Life Treat:

  • 250 g suet or lard
  • 150 g unsalted and unsweetened dry mix (may include raisins, peanuts, sunflower seeds, oats, birdseed, sunflower hearts, dried fruits, or even dried insects!)
  • Molders (maybe yogurt pots, cupcake papers, or ice cube trays)
  • String or twine
  • Jar or bowl
  • Saucepan Spoon

Preparation of Wild Life Treat:

  1. Make a hole at the bottom of your yogurt pots or cupcake papers.
  2. Thread through a length of string or twine leaving enough end for hanging.
  3. Pour the suet over a pan and melt over low heat.
  4. Mix all the dry ingredients in a jar or bowl.
  5. Once the suet has melted, pour over the dry mix until everything is sticking together.
  6. Pour over onto your molds.
  7. Let it cool for 10 minutes so it starts to set.
  8. Put them into the fridge and leave them overnight.
  9. Once set, carefully remove the cupcake papers or the yogurt pots.
  10. Hang your surprise suet cakes around your garden.
  11. Ensure to keep them out from cats and dogs.

Wild Life Sprinkle Snack Delights!

Ingredients for sprinkle snack delights:

  • Wild bird seed in different proportions (sunflower hearts, rolled oats, dried mealworms, peanuts, black sunflower seeds, yellow millet)
  • Dried fruit like cranberries, raisins, sultanas, or currants
  • Dried insects like mealworms and waxworms
  • Grated cheese
  • Chili powder
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Sturdy snack boxes or containers
  • String

Preparation of Wild Life Treat:

  1. Put together the wild bird seeds, dried fruits and insects, and grated cheese in a bowl.
  2. Sprinkle some chili powder to keep rodents away from your snack delight.
  3. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  4. Bring out your snack boxes and let your imagination run wild as you add colour and design to these containers.
  5. Divide the mix into these snack boxes you created.
  6. Leave these snack boxes around your garden, in bird tables, or hang them on trees by tying some string around them.
  7. Run around your lawn or garden as you sprinkle some of the mixes you made!
